Big Brothers Big Sisters Has a New Home!

On June 1, 2021, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region moved into a new co-working office space located on the corner of North Pearl and Steuben Streets in the heart of downtown Albany. This new office space is the result of a collaboration between the United Way and Redburn Development Partners to make quality office space available to local nonprofits operating on shoestring budgets. BBBSCR is thrilled to be among the first non-profit organizations to be included in United Way’s vision of community collaboration. Peer-To-Peer Fundraising Has Great Success

The peer-to-peer fundraising platform enables individuals to raise money for the organization via personalized online pages. BBBSCR has expanded its full-time staff to help meet the growing needs of the organization. Our two most recently hired staff members bring over 25 years of fundraising and communications expertise to the organization. The one-to-one mentoring programs that BBBSCR provide are only possible with support from our generous community. We do not receive government aide for the work we do which ignites the individual potential in our community’s youth. Our new development and communications team will focus on increasing community recognition, engagement, and philanthropy. American National and Siena Saints Men’s & Women’s Basketball teamed up for Big Brothers Big Sisters

On April 23rd American National Insurance Company, in partnership with Siena College Basketball, presented Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region with a check for $4,000. The donation came from the results of the “American National Block Party.” Teaming up with the Siena Saints men’s and women’s basketball teams, American National was ready to make a donation for every blocked shot for both teams during the 2020-21 season. The men’s team averaged 3.29 blocks per contest, while the women’s squad, led by 2019-20 MAAC blocks leader Tobulayefa Watts, averaged 3.69 blocks per contest. Thanks to generous supporters and a second award through the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program, BBBSCR spent March expanding our full-time program staffing to allow us to meet the anticipated large influx of new child enrollments this year. Our one-to-one mentoring is only possible by an infrastructure that allows our staff to mentor our matches, ensuring the safety of Littles and positive outcomes for all.
