MEET BIG BENEFACTOR

Dora Philip, The Hollow

Dora head shot for web

Restaurateur & marketing professional, Dora Philip, co-owns the following downtown Albany businesses, The Hollow Bar + Kitchen, Rosanna’s, Subculture Vegan Deli & Provisions and Halo Wholesale Food Co. Dora worked in restaurants since age 16 but hadn’t considered a career in hospitality. She attended the University at Albany obtaining an English degree and proceeded to work in retail marketing roles at publishing giants, Random House and Scholastic Inc., in New York.

When Dora and her husband decided to relocate back to his hometown in the Capital Region to start a family, they found themselves in a food desert if vegetarian. They co-founded The Hollow together in 2013, highlighting an abundance of satiating vegetarian fare along with traditional meat-based American cuisine and the rest is history. Besides being an accoladed live music venue, The Hollow is known as ‘the’ spot for carnivores and vegans to break bread at the same table, considering all dietary needs and executed beautifully.

Dora is passionate about her businesses, her love of downtown Albany and its community. Being an avid yogi herself, Dora co-founded the Capital Region’s only free, street-wide mass yoga event, YogaPalooza, with The Hot Yoga Spot in 2017.  Dora and her businesses have been involved with various organizations and events to support the arts and give back to her community including South End Children’s Café, Capital Repertory Theatre, Capital Roots, Albany Chef’s Food & Wine Festival, Wine & Dine for the Arts, Catskill Animal Sanctuary, Albany Center Gallery, Boys & Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County, Cathedral of All Saints, Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, Times Union Hope Fund, Camp Bravehearts, NYS Brewers Festival and the Saratoga Food & Wine Festival. She is excited about being involved with BBBS and looks forward to contributing in a positive way!

Along with her husband, two teenage daughters and loveable family pets, she resides in Burnt Hills, NY. When not working, she loves spending time with family & friends, traveling the globe when she can and practicing yoga & Pilates for her physical and mental well-being.

Little Elyse and Big Amberstorm

Little Elyse and Big Amberstorm were just matched together at the end of February! They are still in the beginning stages of getting to know each other and learning what they have in common. On their first outing they went to the Whistling Kettle where they enjoyed some desserts and got to ask each other questions to learn more about one another.
