Capital Region fundraiser raises $40K to help 20 youth find mentors

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (WNYT) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region (BBBSCR) said its annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser raised more than $40,000 to help cut a long youth mentorship waitlist.

The group said the April 12 event raised enough to help match 20 local young people with trained, vetted mentors. That is about 10 percent of the nearly 200 youth now waiting for a mentor in the Capital Region.

On average, young people in the region wait 652 days to be matched, the organization said. It said the need is especially urgent for male mentors, particularly men of color.
